When I first read the blurb for this book I had my reservations about it. I am a cancer survivor as well and I was really hoping that this book would not fluff up the experience. It doesn't and on top of that, it is just a genuinely well written and entertaining book. I later read the author bio and saw that the author is a cancer survivor as well, so I really felt like although this was fiction, she wrote it from a place of personal knowledge and that made it even better.

The things that the main character goes through in this story are written with sincerity and realistic qualities that make you feel close to her and her situation. She struggles to understand why the things that have occurred in her life have happened and comes to new understanding about herself throughout the course of the story.

This book will make you laugh, make you cry in places but also make you realise that no matter what adversity there is in life, there is a way to overcome it. The strong female characters in this book do not come off as abrasive or intentionally feminist. They represent real women with real lives.

I was impressed by the pace and flow of this novel as well as the way the author chose to end her story. If you enjoy women's fiction and like books that border the line between fiction and reality, this would be a good one to choose.

Incredible-heartfelt-real. Couldn't stop reading. BRAVO! Someone understood. Someone helped me overcome.
Personally connected on every level. This book ought to get recognition by every publication!
Elizabeth My Hero!
This is a very beautifully written novel about healing in many senses of the word. I cared about Lara and her journey toward rediscovering self-worth through the unexpected friends that emerge just when you think you’re alone. I loved Hein’s vivid imagery and rich metaphors. The suspenseful subplot also makes this an engaging and absorbing read from start to finish. I definitely recommend this novel.
This is my book club's latest read. Good book, fast read, happy, sad. The author is actually joining us for the book club. Should be fun!
Once i started reading this i could not put it down. I definitely recommend it. Portrays chemo in an outpatient setting well and anyone who is not familiar can learn some things.
I just wanted to hug this child and beat her mother to pulp. What a strong smart beautiful women the author portrayed in this book. If the aim of this author was to make you want to hug and make everything all better for this poor girl. She succeed in huge bucket loads.
Cancer affects each of its victims differently. In How to Climb the Eiffel Tower, Lara Blaine is portrayed as a character who emerges from her treatment as a better person. This is definitely a must read for all women because even if we haven't had to deal with cancer, we are all surrounded by people who have had to deal with it. Elizabeth Hein did a great job of writing a very entertaining book that was hard to put down until the end.
I love how this book covers two themes the fear that goes into the diagnosis and treatment of cancer and the long-lasting scars left by adverse childhood events. The author seamlessly weaves the two, so not only does the reader experience a first-hand account of the protagonist's cancer journey, we also get to see her finally face her childhood demons. Up until her cancer diagnosis, Lara Blaine has walled herself off from others as a way to survive her childhood trauma, but once she becomes ill, she finds the me-against-the-world approach no longer possible. The cast of characters who join her on her journey are every bit as memorable as Lara. A well-written, enjoyable read with depth and heart.
This well written story about a young professional woman dealing with a diagnosis and treatment of cancer, will be a gift to those who have had or know others who have dealt with cancer. The determination and grit of Lara is not the only inspiration available to the reader. Everyone has a story, and Lara is no exception; a story that threatens her ability to let others care and befriend her. The reader hopes that she can unclench her fists and receive the blessing she deserves. If there is one problem with Effel Tower, it ends too soon. Like any friend you make, you enjoy their company, and saying goodbye to Lara was like that. The Reader's Guide will direct a great book club discussion.
